Who We Are

A Practice Built Around
People, Not Just Cases

Rachan Counsel was founded on a simple belief: that families navigating difficult legal matters deserve counsel that is patient, honest, and genuinely present for them.

Our Story

How Rachan Counsel Came to Be

Rachan Counsel opened its doors in Nong Prue, Chonburi in 2015, at a time when the Eastern Seaboard was growing quickly and the number of cross-cultural families in the region was rising with it. The founding partners had spent years in broader commercial and civil practice, but kept finding themselves drawn to the cases that sat closest to people's personal lives — separations handled badly, custody arrangements left in uncertainty, families unsure of their rights under Thai law.

The decision to focus exclusively on family matters was not a business calculation. It came from the conviction that this particular area of law — where emotions run high, where children's futures can be shaped by a document or a missed deadline — requires a different kind of attention than most legal work demands.

Since then, Rachan Counsel has accompanied several hundred families through some of the most personally significant moments of their lives. The practice has remained deliberately small. We do not take on more clients than we can serve well.

Our Mission

To be the steady, reliable presence that families in legal difficulty can lean on — handling the procedural weight so that our clients can focus on what matters most to them: their children, their households, and their futures.

Our Values

  • Patience — we move at the pace that suits our clients, not ourselves.
  • Honesty — we tell clients what they need to hear, including when a path may be difficult.
  • Discretion — private matters stay private, without exception.
  • Care — the human situation is never secondary to the legal one.

The Team

The People You Will Work With

Our practice is small by choice. Every client works directly with a qualified counsellor — not a paralegal or a rotating team.

Our Standards

How We Work

The protocols we follow are not bureaucratic exercises — they are the foundation of the trust our clients place in us.

Thai Bar Membership

All practising members of Rachan Counsel are registered members of the Lawyers Council of Thailand and maintain their annual professional education requirements.

Client Confidentiality Protocol

Every new client matter is opened under a formal confidentiality agreement. Client files are stored securely and are never shared with parties outside the matter without written consent.

Written Summaries at Every Stage

After each significant step — consultation, document submission, hearing — clients receive a plain-language written summary of what happened and what comes next.

Child Welfare Priority

In matters involving children, we apply a child-welfare-first framework when reviewing options and preparing positions. This shapes how we advise and how we negotiate.

Ethical Practice Standards

We adhere to the ethical guidelines set by the Lawyers Council of Thailand and maintain professional indemnity insurance covering all client work undertaken by the practice.

Responsive Communication

We return calls and emails within one working day. Clients are never left wondering what is happening with their matter or waiting more than 24 hours for an acknowledgement.

About Our Practice

Family Legal Services in Eastern Thailand

Rachan Counsel works within the Thai family law framework as set out in the Civil and Commercial Code, handling matters of marriage, separation, parental authority, child maintenance, and the division of jointly held property. The Chonburi region — which includes Pattaya, Bang Saen, and the wider Bang Lamung district — has a particularly large population of mixed-nationality households, and much of our caseload reflects that reality.

We do not operate as a general law firm that takes family cases as one part of a broader practice. Family matters are the only work we do, which means our team's knowledge and attention remains undivided.

When couples or parents come to us, they are often carrying a great deal of emotional weight alongside their legal questions. Our approach acknowledges that. We create space for people to speak at their own pace, and we are trained to hold difficult conversations with care rather than clinical detachment.

The legal process in Thailand can feel opaque, particularly for those unfamiliar with Thai civil procedure. Part of our role is to translate that process into clear, accessible language and to make sure our clients understand each decision they are being asked to make.
